On Holland Doc I saw this documentary on the car of the future. I saw a car that was build a long time which already did 1:159 … The first car that was build ran 1:9, now, many years later our cars don’t do much better.

In all those years all improvements were bought out, discarded, politically manouvred to be smothered.

On the documentary you find a lot of background on the story of cars, oil, the myth of cars running on hydrogen (on which dubious research actually millions of public money is going), and the real car of the future: the one that will run on electricity.

I think that car is very near. On my next car purchase I will choose without a doubt the most energy effective car as my primary buying motive.

To place my HTC TyTn II in my car, next to my Nokia Carkit I’m thinking of buying the following combination:

1. The Brodit Holder HTC TyTN II with 3-in-1 Adapter . So I can:

a) turn it both vertically and horizontally
b) dont have to make holes in my dashboard and can take him with me to my next lease-bak.
c) with the 3-in-1 adapter I can connect the usb cable to the:

2. Venturi Mini, which enables me to charge it and listen to applications like music, navigation or incoming calls via a radio channel.

In this way I can use both devices at the same time in the car since the Nokia kit is hardwired in the car.

Total costs:

The past years I have read so much forum postings from disappointed people on the Chevrolet EV1 that it almost becomes cliche. It was an electric car which, despite the waiting lists and the raving community was pulled back by Chevrolet because it wouldn’t become profitable to sell the electric car.

People are still upset.

"It has recently been theorized by the documentary Who Killed the Electric Car? that the EV1 program was eliminated because it threatened the oil industry and because it required virtually no maintenance and therefore threatened GM’s profitability by undermining the replacement parts aftermarket as well as the company’s strategy of planned obsolescence." This has now changed.

On June 3, 2008, GM CEO Rick Wagoner stated in a press release that "The Chevy Volt is a go" and that production has been approved, with a target of getting the Volt into showrooms by the end of 2010. The initial production run for first year of sales of the Volt is most likely 10,000 vehicles and it will cost between $30000 and $40000. Over 200 engineers and 50 designers are working on the Volt alone, and another 400 are working on related subsystems and electric components

The Concept Chevy Volt, with its revolutionary E-Flex Propulsion System will be different than any previous electric vehicle because it will use a lithium-ion battery with a variety of range-extending onboard power sources, including gas and, in some vehicles, E85 ethanol to recharge the battery while driving.

When it comes to plugging in, the Volt will be designed to use a common 110–volt household plug. For someone who drives less than 40 miles (64 kilometer) a day, Chevy Volt will use zero gasoline and produce zero emissions. For longer trips, Chevy Volt’s range-extending power source kicks in to recharge the lithium-ion battery pack as required. They expect a driving range of an estimated 640 miles (1000 kilometers).

It looks cool too. I’m going to buy it when it is available here.

I spend quite some time in the car and have a TomTom kit, a nokia carkit system, an mp3/radio/5 cd system in it, which provides me with some basic needs.

But I was thinking to extend the "technical infrastructure" inside the car, this were some basic thoughts:

* I want to place my HTC TytTn II / Kaiser / MDA Vario III in an active holder so I can ultimately give away my current TomTom and run TomTom from the PDA as well as use it for all kinds of other intersting stuff while driving e.g. storage for music etc…
* It should be integrated with the system carkit system for my Nokia, in some way, I haven’t thought the complete integration through, but I should be able to (voice) dial from either phone or pda via the same gui. Maybe an extra screen is interesting
* It should be integrated with 2 DVD sets, 1 for Maarten and one for us:)
* Playing MP3s from CD is nice but I want to move ahead and play them from the storage location.

In essense, I think it will boil to:

a) place a storage location in my car, e.g. a terabyte harddisk somewhere
b) if I convert all Maarten’s "Engy Bengy /Bob de Bouwer" DVD’s to some digital format which I can store on the harddisk, I don’t need actual DVD players, I then would only need display screens.
c) one of the display screens could be the central interface to my pda, tomtom, my nokia, my wife’s nokia, the radio, the mp3 music stored on the storage location
d)  and while I’m at it if I could instead of the "dumb" storage location replace this with a Linux box, it would make it even possible to startup Lotus Notes and check and sync my mail on the way. I could then ofcourse, due to the unlimited bandwith I have on my PDA Abbo be constant online and run any interesting app. I could possibly let information gadgets show themselves every 20 seconds like traffic, weather, radio station info, received cals, mails, news, etc…

These are some first thoughts on what I want. I have, of course, seen quite some heavy linux car modding projects the past years on the Net. But basically I want an out of the box solution. Some years ago I blogged on MS Car. I wonder how far this got? I feel the time is near when the need for this "here" especially the "not needing" dvd/cd drives is interesting as well as the 120% of coverage in the country of mobile phones.

Nou… wat kun je nog meer doen in de file buiten muziek luisteren, gamen, sigaretjes roken, je haren doen, onbijten, lunchen of een goed boek lezen?

Op smskenteken.nl kun je je kenteken registeren en op die manier SMSjes ontvangen via je kenteken. Dat betekent dat je dan in de file vrij handig kunt communiceren met je medeweggebruikers.

Omdat het me op zich vrij grappig leek maar de kans buitengewoon klein is dat iemand me daadwerkelijk SMS-st heb ik me ook maar geregistreerd. Je kunt me bereiken op “GO AUTO 05-TR-KN” (naar 3010) maar even opletten want het grapje kost 90 cent per bericht.

Naast gaspedaal.nl is Zomoto ook wel een aardige auto-zoek-site.

huidige waarde van je auto – Je maakt een profiel aan op basis van kenteken en je krijgt de huidige waarde van je auto te zien (zie mijn post "wat is mijn auto waard " van een tijdje geleden) (Helaas berekent hij voor mijn auto (zie links) niet de waarde omdat hij jonger dan een jaar is.)

wat ben je kwijt per maand – Daarnaast berekent hij wat je kwijt bent per maand aan je auto, ik heb daar een tijdje geleden naar gezocht maar ik kon geen goede site vinden die dit overzichtelijk uitrekent. Je krijgt een overzicht verdeelt in componenten "brandstof", "verzekering", "wegenbelasting", "reparaties", "banden" en "afschrijving". Je kunt opgeven hoeveel je per jaar rijdt, op je veel op snelweg of binnen de stad rijdt en je postcode, allemaal parameters die bepalen hoeveel je kwijt bent per maand.

zoeken op occasions naar kosten per maand – en… je kunt  zoeken op tweedehands auto’s / occasions (wat een raar woord eigenlijk) (etymologisch betekent het "vallen") op basis van de kosten per maand. En omdat we voor Esmee op zoek zijn naar een autootje weet ik dat ik daar zelf op zoek naar was. Tot nu toe was het een beetje gokken op basis van de prijs van de auto. Dit is volgens mij waar veel mensen naar zoeken: een auto die me zoveel euro per maand kost. Het systeem laat je ook je zoekopdrachten bewaren, zoals in Funda, wat natuurlijk ook erg handig is.

auto’s verkopen – de site is echt heel compleet want je kunt er ook je auto op verkopen, de advertentieteksten mee beheren en zo een beetje volgen hoe het staat met de verkoop.

informatie over je huidige auto – Dit vond ik heel handig: allerlei informatie over mijn huidige auto onder de 2e tab (zie rechts) met wat mooie fotootjes.

Hier is het team achter Zomoto en hier is de weblog van de makers van Zomoto. Als ik door de profielen van de makers heenblader dan zie ik ook gelijk de linkedin urls, de delicious urls, de facebook url e.d. van de mensen achter Zomoto, erg goed.

Dit is volgens mij echt het toonbeeld van een goede Nederlandse web2.0 site (nee Tshui, dit is geen paid posting). Cleane layout, alle componenten binnen de niche verenigt als een soort super mashup, de makers staan volledig in het web2.0 gebeuren, snel en ik heb echt het gevoel dat de site me meerwaarde levert.

Op de blog lees ik dat ze 29 november live zijn met de beta, dit kan alleen maar een groot succes worden.
