Some Sellaband Tips

Today I bought some shares in some new bands and artists on Sellaband. I’ll give you the list, check them out, maybe you find them interesting too and want to buy shares in them too. Now I bought shares in the them I will probably promote them a little more during the following months on this blog.

image So What – dutch band with pretty relaxed music. They are already on 36k and are currently #1 on the Sellaband charts. I liked the song passe partout, because it sounded so funny. This their mission for their first album:

So What is a young band. In this formation (the 4 of us) we exist almost a year. Without being cocky we can say we have written some pretty decent songs in the past. Some say that we’ve got songs with ‘hit potential’, we hope we have! We want to make an album, on which we and our believers can be proud.

First of all. We want to make a real album. An album. Our album won’t be part of a huge trilogy or be a story telling album. It will contain songs, which people will be singing allong with. Songs that people will like, it will be an album that people will listen over and over again. An album that people will buy. We hope we can get along with the new wave of rock bands that make fame these days, deep in our hearts we know we can.

image Natalia Safran – put a friendly note in my Sellaband inbox to take a look and listen to the songs, so I did, I listened to the music and I liked it. Her marketing efforts on Sellaband work well.

Hi Edward!

I just saw your SellABand profile and couldn’t help myself – I would absolutely love for you to hear my music!

http://www.sellaband.com/nataliasafran/

I am new on SAB in my third week, but we reached 3K in just two weeks. It is so exciting and I want the whole world to jump onboard :-) I am hell-bent on getting my foot in the studio by the Summer! A lot of work to be done by then, I know, but with your support I could do anything!

I am Polish, live in California and work in Europe a good part of the year.

Music is my all-consuming passion and SellaBand is a do-or-die for me. If you like my songs and decide to show us a little faith then I promise not to disappoint you. I will work relentlessly, release only my best music, show only my best effort and never stop until my shining new album is in your hands!

My songs have a distinctive sound and a style of their own, everybody in my band is a solid musician with years of onstage experience and each one is a session musician to boot. Just check out my guitarist Maciej Sobczak‘s work and tell me it¹s not amazing!

Please check out

I hope to see you soon.

either way I would love to know what you think of my sound!

With warmest regards,

Natalia

image Sandbox – An Australian band which is the Alternative Rock, Punk, Electronic and Experimental Rock areas. When I heard their song Cellphone City I immediately got deja-vu’s to all kinds of songs, I actually am thinking of Peter Gabriel, Styx, Pink Floyd, etc..

Their three songs make a good click in my head.

We are nearly ready to upload our 4th song. Having spent the last week recording backing tracks, we spent Saturday tracking the main vocals, and backing vocals. Now for some intense mixing…in some ways the mixing is the hardest part for us as decisions have to be made about what is, and what isn’t important in the mix. This promises to be an important time for us as it could prove to be a highly controversial song!

image Radius – Another Dutch band which has a very good sound. Reminded me somewhat of the “U2″ sound.

I actually listened to their songs a couple of times so that is absolutely a good sign. I think this is a band that may grow on me the more I listen to it.

Absolutely a perfect sound, I’m curious to hear some more songs.

Daniel Ward-Murphy came up with an innovative retail trick:

BELIEVER OFFER 1:  ANYONE WHO EITHER BUYS OR UPGRADES THEIR BELIEF IN ME TO 5 PARTS WILL RECEIVE A SIGNED WHITE LABEL CD OF THE THREE OF MY TRACKS, ‘She’s A Knockout’, ‘City Inside’ and ‘The Most Important Thing’. (Those who already have believed in me to the tune of 5 parts or more, please private message me with your address.)

So… I listened to some songs and “Act of Defiance” hooked me, but for now, bought 1 part.

image Gisel de Marco , when I clicked the first song “All the way” and heard the first 5 seconds I bought the part.

I’m absolutely a sucker for this this kind of music. What a great voice.

I may buy some more parts soon, on the next “my sellaband bands” blog updates

Transform your iTunes to a playabe website

I found here the extremely simple instructions on how to create a website from iTunes, either with all your music on it or a playlist.

The instructions are simple. I found that it’s better creating a smaller playlist because an xml file of your complete collection takes too long to load.

The website is ofcourse handy to place on my Synology CS 407 webdir, so I can listen to my music via (embedded) intranet websites (the other parts on the page coming from wikipedia, last.fm and such).

Then… I found a gazillion other projects doing the same or to even a greater extent in almost any programming language, there seem to be gazillions, some even with this functionality (sources here).

So basically I can create the album xml for the Cover Flow from the iTunes library xml and create pages per album and artist. this would be very easy to do. I could even link the wikipedia info per album into it etc… By the time I get my HD TV with PC input I might even view this intranet music site via the TV in the living room, I could also add some radio channels to it. Hmm…

Here is another interesting Google search for webbased ITunes players.

My Sellaband Limited CD’s

I almost forgot. A while ago I wrote about Sellaband. You can buy shares in upcoming bands and as soon as they make the required level you can earn revenue from the income from the band.

One of the things you receive, when they are able to reach the level, is a limited edition of their first recorded cd.

I checked my profile today and saw there are 2 limited editions on their way:

image I could decide to sell them online, which would bring me 90% of the revenue (while 10% goes to the band). Obviously this is what you would do if you buy a large amount of shares in a band and receive hundreds of CD’s.

However I only have 1 part in the band SolidTube and the artist Julia Marcell so I will enjoy these cd’s for myself.

Sellaband is really a great concept, I’m going to surf it for some more good artists and buy some shares. Obviously I need to promote the artists I invested in, so they will earn more revenue ergo I will earn more revenue. Probably I should buy some more shares per band to provide me a steady income from this. The great thing is of course that instead of just “looking for new music”, this is a much more fun way of trying to find new band you like. You actually create a connection with the band since you can become their sponsor.

Here is a video from SolidTube, the band where I bought a part in:

More videos here or listen to some songs here on the SolidTube site.

Julia Marcell writes on her weblog how she could record her first cd thanks to 657 Sellaband believers, pretty cool that I am one of them although I only have 1 part. The limited edition of the CD will have extra content, also pretty cool. I listened again to her songs and wow, what a great songs, I’m going to play it very often, might become a default asset in my car.

03.27.2008 – TO MY BELIEVERS on SELLABAND.COM
Please log in to you Believer account and set up how many limited editions of my upcoming CD you want to have sent home and how many sold. The choice will be available only till March 31st, after that date the system will decide for you, so hurry!
02.17.2008 – CD recording update
Meine Damen und Herren, the recording of my full-length in Berlin went splendid – I have one awesome CD on the way, I tell you! We’re very excited to present it to you someday in spring, but until that happens, there’s still a lot to do, so stick around and wait for the big announcement to come.
Couple of facts:
- the CD is recorded thanks to the 657 lovely people (called Believers) who invested in it on Sellaband.com
- the album is produced by Moses Schneider (how cool is that!?)
- there will be a limited edition of the CD (with extra content) and a regular one with… well… just songs
- 10 songs are recorded, none of which can be found on my EP “Storm”
- Sellaband will be releasing this album on the internet; it will also be available in stores around Europe eventually
Keep your eyes (and ears) open.

Here is a vid from Julia (from the Julia Marcell YouTube site).

And this one is also extreme cool:

As soon as the cd’s drop in I will make a big review on them.

Sad news today: Benny Neyman passed away  at the age of 56 jarige leeftijd.  I went to one of his concerts once in Mestreech where he and I grew up. I think a lot of Mestreechteneren are shocked by this news. Rest In Peace Benny.

Tha Tan – "To be a Hundred" – CD Review

image

Tha Tan -  the Thai-Brazilian symphonic rock band made a great start with this album, not only because of it being the pet project of giants like Peter Gabriel, Steve Lukather and Brian Eno but also because this first album delivered a monstrous summerhit "falsified dream", which stayed on #1 for several months in several South American countries. The first part of the CD contains a powerful rock experience which clearly shows  the musical science education of all the band members (except for the drummer Bob)  while the second part clearly shows the strong influence of the drummer "Bob" (2m50 and heavy weight boxing champion) in the band since it contains 4 songs of 10 minutes only consisting of drum solos. This second part of the CD could drive you crazy, but apparently the live audience absolutely goes wild when Bob takes the stage.  In essence it will enter rock history as one of the most influential albums of our age but also one of the weirdest. (Tha Tan – To be a hundred was release by EMI on 28-01-2008). P.S: there are rumors on the Internet that the band is in the studio preparing an acoustic version of the song "You are Everybody"!

My Jango Jukebox

I’ve written about and seen a LOT of new music sites, A LOT. But somehow Jango is the one that works for me. It’s simple to start with but has some great layers once you dive in deeper. You can leave it on all day.

So hereby I declare Jango my ultimate favorite music site of all 150 music sites in my collection of greatest music sites, just because it magically works.

It’s a shame that this little applet doesn’t fit in my sidebar, but let’s just blog my musical preferences here: (the applet only shows some artists from "Edwards Car Music Radio Channel" :)

SolidTube reaches 50k on Sellaband

A while ago I wrote about the first believer part I bought on Sellaband. I bought a stockpart in the band “SolidTube”. This month they reached the magic 50k boundary which means that they can record their cd and if I understand the system correctly I will receive a first copy soon. Pretty cool. Read More.

Santana and Clapton: Jingo

While YouTubeing I often get the urge to just blog video after video. There is so much cool stuff on there! However I assume everyone gets through this same emotions and postings millions of YouTube vids gets a bit boring. However here is an exception:

When you clicktrough to YouTube you will find some other cool related videos like the Santana Chester Thompson Oye Como Va version and a song by John Lennon, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and Mitch Mitchel

So why did I pick Santana? Because I was in a run again of ripping my piles of CD’s and ended with “Santana – Abraxis”.

image If you haven’t heard this 1970 classic, then you should. It contains the well know songs “oye como va” and “samba pa ti“.

I’ve played it like a thousand times and can now enjoy in on my iTunes player.
