The stone Progress

I play a  free puzzle game on the Internet. You can play it for free here: http://www.thestonemonument.com/, I encourage you to try it.

Originally the game was published by Abject Modernity Internet Creations Inc. in 1995. It was developed by  Rod E. Bruinooge, who´s father originated from Wemeldinge in the Netherlands. The game was launched as a consumer product in 1997.

The game includes 216 puzzles in 6 categories. The game consist mostly of just one image and a textbox, so you print it out and take it along to think about it. Together they unlock an ancient mystery called the Enigma. In 2007 a player called Derfel was the first to solve all puzzles and the solution to the Enigma.

The original gamebox also included a physical stone with symbols. Of each stone two were made and the meaning was that you could find your “stone mate” by finding the one with the same symbols. Never found anyone who had the same stone as me though:

After discovery the game was closed in 2008.

Here are some more posts I wrote about it: http://edward.de.leau.net/?s=the+stone

But on http://www.thestonemonument.com/ fans (scarecrow, the site is also reachable on http://www.scarecrowsfield.com) made a copy of the game and it is there that you can play the game for free.

I wrote some more on it here. I started with the game in 2001. See also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stone_(Game). Since I don’t have that much time … I usually need months to find the time to dive into a puzzle, so … it’s nice to stretch this one over time.

This page shows my progress on the puzzles as you can see I finished “the unknown” but of the “immediate” i barely scratched the surface (216 in total). If you play it / start playing it: I desperately would like some help on the puzzles I have not solved yet.

If you know me in person you can drive me mad if you have solved one I have not solved yet.

The main thing about these puzzles is that they take you on a journey in your head and lead you to many places you have never been before. You get to learn stuff you never would have heard of and when you look back at them, that definitely enrich your knowledge of all kinds of stuff.

Many of these puzzles basically are equal to reading an addictive book.

  1. […] have been playing: Scarecrow's Field (where you find the stone monument) I wrote about that here: The stone Progress*|*Edward de Leau If you play this game also: tell me then maybe we can exchange nudges and become friends ! […]

  2. I stumbled upon you today while re-entering The Stone now that Glitch is ending and I’m looking to get back into puzzles. Sadly, much of my progress on Scarecrow’s Field has been lost. Would love a buddy off of whom to bounce ideas as I dive back in. Leuk om te u ontmoeten! (Sorry if I butchered that… I’m in the process of learning Dutch.)
