I wrote about this a long time ago but as the Internet matures I notice more people asking themselves the same question. (here is the Google Search ).

Basically there should be a sort of fund or trustee which should handle the online things (I haven’t found them) and your loved ones should just only remember to contact the institution who handles your online “death”.

Actually what I am thinking of is a sort of open-source fund, where online users and corporations donate money too, to handle the death of users. This could be of great value to all of them since it would help them also maintaining their user base.

Some obvious tasks:

  • Saving online content on a safe spot (forever)
  • Finding, if wanted, others who are willing to continue an online venture if the income is a high percentage for a family
  • Informing online institutions of a death (hosting, webservices, payment services)
  • Keeping passwords and usernames in a safe spot
  • Informing in online communities, chatrooms, forums, blogs the death of the person if wanted
  • be the central contact about questions from online businesses and users

I don’t have the server capacity to build such an online organization. I think one of the big TelCo’s or online Corporations should step forward and dedicate resources to this project.
